Spiritual Direction – Tending the Spirit Within

People who are curious about noticing God’s movement in their lives sometimes seek out the guidance of a Spiritual Director.

“Spiritual direction” has a long history in the Christian tradition and so we use this phrase, but “spiritual mentoring” is a clearer description of the process of helping seekers become more aware of the activity of Spirit in their lives.

The guidance one seeks in spiritual direction comes not from the director, but from the wisdom inherent in the seeker. Most of us have not been taught that we have within ourselves an “inner compass” of wisdom which leads us into a life that is harmonious with God’s desires; that leads to creativity, peace and communion with God, self and others. As we learn to trust the “true North” of that interior compass, a sense of being companioned from within by One who loves us unconditionally is gradually strengthened.

At FPCSR, there are a number of credentialed spiritual directors who offer Spiritual Direction at no fee for our members, and spiritual direction on a sliding scale for others (no one will be turned away for lack of funds). Rev. Kay Collette, Rev. Jan Reynolds, and Elder Lorna Wuertz are available to meet with you at the church. There are many Spiritual Directors practicing at the Interfaith Counseling Center in San Anselmo - http://interfaithcc.org/ – if you would prefer to meet outside of the church.

We encourage you to explore a deeper connection with the Sacred, however that may be understood by you.

To learn more about spiritual direction, or to connect with a spiritual director, contact Lorna Wuertz or call the church office at 415.456.6760.
