Spirituality Development

Until about twenty years ago, the mainstream protestant churches were much more interested in beliefs, ideas, words, theology—all ways of thinking about the Divine. But recently, we began to wake up to the importance of experiencing the sacred in ordinary life. A mature Christianity engages both head and heart; both reason and intuition; both feeling and thinking.

At FPCSR, our intention is to encourage an intentional spiritual journey. There is in our midst growing evidence of the classic fruits of the Spirit-- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gals. 5).

Spirituality classes meet on most Wednesday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm. We begin with a reading from sacred literature or poetry and some silence for meditation or reflection. Each week a new spiritual teaching and practice will be introduced; sometimes we teach from themes from particular books. This group is led by credentialed Spiritual Directors, Kay Collette, Lorna Wuertz and Jan Reynolds, and sometimes we invite other teachers to lead us. Everyone is welcome to attend these Wednesday evening gatherings – there is no fee – drop in any time!

Samples of some of our class offerings…

  • The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson
