What does it mean to be a member of FPCSR?

We are asked this question from time to time, and the answer is simple: being a member means that you’re committed to taking the next step in your walk of faith with this group of people.

It’s worth pointing out that membership is not our primary goal; participation is. We talk about the direction we would like our congregation to take, yet we don’t pretend to suggest we’ve arrived at the destination; we have not. But we state our goals here because it keeps us accountable to our mission and we hope it calls others to join us on this sacred journey.

So how can we effect growth in our lives?

We’re more apt to grow if we commit to answering a question in our lives, rather than committing to “do it better this time.” There’s usually something that blocks change. It’s good to face that and find out what it is. For instance: Suppose you have a sense that the spiritual dimension of your life needs to develop but you are uncomfortable with meditation because it is “woo woo.” You could make yourself do it anyway, but really, how’s that going to work? Maybe it would be more productive to ask, “How can I develop the spiritual dimension of my life without being ‘woo woo?’” and then seek an answer to that question.

We don’t know where you are on the journey, so we can’t formulate your question, or dictate your next step, but we would like to give you the opportunity and support you with whatever you need as you work that out with God. That’s what we mean when we identify our mission as: Sacred Journey, Intelligible Faith.

You’re welcome to join us.
