Why We Are
Inclusive
First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael is
inclusive because we believe that Jesus calls us to welcome all who wish to visit or join
our church. That understanding is clear in our church constitution, which states
"the church is called to a new
openness, by affirming itself as a community of diversity, becoming in fact as well as in
faith a community of women and men of all ages, races and conditions, and by providing for
inclusiveness as a visible sign of new humanity...".
We believe that people of good character may
differ in their theological understandings, but that the exclusion of any group of people
from full membership in the church is inconsistent with Jesus' teachings.
