Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) offers short- and long-term volunteer opportunities in a variety of locations. PDA is one of the most highly respected disaster response organizations in the world, and our experience with them has been very positive. PDA runs the camps we stay in, works with local groups to locate our work sites, and provides general oversight of the projects.
As part of its commitment to long-term recovery, PDA is still working in the disaster-impacted communities of Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi and in the upper Midwest to help families rebuild or restore their homes. All work is done using predominantly volunteer labor at no cost to the homeowner. Learn more and sign up to volunteer.
2013 Mission Trip | April 7-13, 2013
From April 7-13, 2013, we will go to Smithville, TX, 45 minutes from Austin, to rebuild homes that were completely destroyed by wildfires. We will stay at Faith Village, an ecumenical partnership that is hosting volunteers in Smithville, Texas, in response to September 2011 wildfires in Bastrop County. More than 1,600 homes were destroyed by the fires. Mission Presbytery is a partner in the operation of Faith Village, and volunteers will be hosted at the First Baptist Church in Smithville. On February 23, we held our famous Crabfeed fundraiser. Proceeds will cover food, lodging and local transportation for our volunteers. For information, contact Ralph Purdy, or call the church office at 415.456.6760.
