Volunteer Opportunities

FPCSR has a strong tradition of community service which is being continually renewed and expanded. Members have been involved in service projects such as collecting food for the Marin Food Bank, providing meals for local non-profit agencies that help the poor and homeless, and special financial support for national and international emergency and developmental assistance. For four years, a team from FPCSR spent a week each year in the New Orleans area working with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) helping rebuild homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. In April, 2012, the group traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to help rebuild after tornadoes destroyed thousands of homes in 2011. In Spring, 2013, a Mission trip is being planned to participate in a PDA effort to rebuild houses in Springville, Texas, the site of massive wild fires in 2011.

For the last several winters and again this year, the church has provided a weekly supper for homeless women as part of a coalition of congregations in Marin County. Youth members have helped with the Leon Mission Partnership and have raised funds for Heifer International. Members are also active in local service organizations such as Marin Link, Homeward Bound, Marin Organizing Committee, Audubon Ranch, tutoring, Marin Interfaith Council, Marin Hunger Walk and many more. Each Christmas, the Committee  helps put on the Advent Festival and Fair where church members can shop for fair trade arts, crafts, and food from a number of aid organizations. If you’re interested in joining with us in providing food to the Food Bank, participating in the Emergency Shelter, Thursday Soup Night, the Marin Crop Walk, or any other service opportunities, please call the church office at 456-6760.
